Confession: I love Instagram stories. Like a lot. A lot, a lot.
I know it’s still a touchy subject since it really hasn’t been that long from when Instagram launched it’s version of Snapchat. People seem to either love or hate Insta-stories. But Snapchat clearly isn’t going anywhere, so I think we can all cool it a little, right?
It didn’t take long after the update for Insta-stories to start popping up regularly from most of the brands, editors, and the like that I follow. Because monkey see, monkey do — I started updating my Insta-story with the mindset that it was an aesthetically pleasing version of Snapchat. I didn’t realize my friends IRL weren’t doing the same until one told me, “You’re the only person I follow on Instagram who updates their story.”
Then I began to notice that
all most of the editors I had previously added on Snapchat migrated their usual content to Insta-stories. And as soon as New York Fashion Week rolled around, there were more Insta-stories than I could even care to watch in a day. Video after video of the runways, pictures from showrooms, editor’s selfies, etc.
It’s no secret that the fashion industry has always had a love affair with Instagram, which now provides fashion bloggers with the majority of their income. So I’m not sure why I was so surprised to see the industry as an eager adopter to Instagram’s latest feature.
While the haters are always gonna hate, hate, hate, here are the pros of Insta-stories and why you should post them too.
Pro: it’s like giving your Instagram following access to a prettier version of your Snapchat story.
Pro: your followers are already there, so you can stop putting your Snapchat username in your bio.
Pro: drawing/marker and color options are a thousand times more fun.
Pro: you can pause viewing by holding down, i.e. you don’t have to scroll down and search for the person to re-watch their story.
Pro: you can tap backwards to re-watch the story.
Update your Insta-story, I dare you. And if you want to see mine, follow me @madisonmonteze.
