Street style is a tired idea, in my humble opinion. But I don’t think I’ll ever tire of being nostalgic for the nineties. Yes, I know, I’m hardly a “nineties kid” with being born just four years before the millennium and all. That doesn’t stop me from having a deep love and appreciation for the decade I really only know through various forms of media. The fashion was great, the supermodels even better. TV shows like Friends, Seinfeld, and Sex and the City are timeless and — let’s be real — superior to current television.
Back to the fashion, enter: Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. For the uninformed, she was a publicist for Calvin Klein, wife to JFK Jr., and tragically died in 1999 in a plane crash. Carolyn’s style was before her time, and is still very much a fashion darling. She’s the epitome of nineties chic. Although these photos were captured by paparazzi, if street style photographers had been around, they would’ve followed her like a hawk I’m sure. She wore cropped flare jeans and strappy kitten heels 15 years before the rest of us, after all!
